“Cagliari, Storia millenaria della città”, ripercorre i circa 27 secoli di vicende che hanno interessato il capoluogo della Sardegna. Un libro scritto in stile giornalistico per cui la lettura risulta scorrevole e comprensiva e per questo adatta a tutti arricchito da numerose foto, ricostruzioni e tabelle.Si inizia con la formazione geologica del Golfo degli Angeli, la zona dove sorgerà la Cagliari attuale, e la descrizione dei primi ritrovamenti fossili come il cranio di un grande coccodrillo rinvenuto in piazza del Carmine e tanti altri reperti risalenti al Miocene. Importante anche la descrizione dei reperti venuti alla luce in siti è grotte dove vissero gli uomini antichi e dei tanti fossili umani e materiale ceramico risalenti al paleolitico e neolitico. Numerose tabelle e cartine indicano i luoghi di ritrovamento nell'arco del golfo di Cagliari. Esaustiva e puntuale la descrizione degli avvenimenti storici a partire dai fenici e cartaginesi e dei siti risalenti a quel periodo come la grande necropoli di Tuvixeddu e a seguire il periodo romano con tutti i monumenti di quella fase ancora presenti a Cagliari come l'anfiteatro, la Grotta della Vipera e la cosiddetta "Casa di Tigellio". La storia complessa e avvincente di Cagliari continua con la venuta dei vandali e dei bizantini per arrivare a quel momento importante che è il periodo Giudicale quando la Caralis romana fu soppiantata dalla città di Santa Igia che fu capitale di quell’importante regno medievale chiamato “Giudicato di Calari”. Segue un approfondimento del periodo giudicale generale per spiegarne le caratteristiche e la descrizione di tutti i giudici che regnarono nel giudicato di “Calari” fino al 1258, anno della sua caduta. Ampio spazio è dedicato al periodo Pisano (quelli che costruirono le celebri torri del quartiere Castello) e alla creazione del Regno di Sardegna e il conseguente arrivo degli Aragonesi prima e degli spagnoli poi. Di questo periodo l’opera menziona come la città fortificata di Castello sia stata “iberizzata” e gli avvenimenti più importanti del periodo come l’assassinio del viceré Camarassa, l’Inquisizione che ha sede proprio a Cagliari e la fondazione dell’università. Approfondito è anche il periodo piemontese con tutti i problemi che attanagliavano la città fino al tentativo di conquista francese e alla cacciata dei funzionari piemontesi (Sa Die de Sa Sardigna), la così detta “Fusione” che portò il Regno di Sardegna a diventare uno stato unitario e non più composto. La Congiura di Palabanda del 1812 e la rivolta per la fame del 1906 sono raccontate con dovizia di particolari come la Cagliari nel periodo fascista fino ai tragici bombardamenti del 1943. Poi la descrizione accurata dei quattro quartieri storici cagliaritani e dei sette colli sui quale è adagiata la città. Il volume contiene anche la descrizione di luoghi, monumenti e avvenimenti che hanno caratterizzato e caratterizzano il capoluogo sardo e la sua vita cittadina. Un volume completo quindi che servirà a conoscere, con dovizia di particolari, Cagliari attraverso il suo passato millenario e il suo presente.
